Hi guys, we can see how well we can communicate virturally.
I look forward to hearing what interests you in this project.
I worked over a bead foam form covered with chicken wire. These were each a one person one day project.
This cement was colored black. I coated the obelisk with a polyurethane finish it actually lasted quite awhile but you can see that it is now peeling off. the bottom portion has no finish and is virtually the same as the day it was finished. I colored in where the water flows from the top chamber by the obelisk and then into the back left chamber and then through the five holes into the shallow pan in front. It is then recycled by pump. This project took two people weeks to complete. We should aim somewhere between the two.
Hi, this is Carolyn K from the IA Garden Sculpture Enrichment!
Currently, I’m in 11th grade.
I’m very interested in arts in general, and I am considering to persue some type of art as a career…Possibly interior design, product design, or architecture. However, first I would like to explore as many fields of art as possible before making a decision. That is part of the reason why I chose this enrichment, since I have never sculptured in such large proportions. I’m sure that I will learn many valuable techniques in this enrichment and expand my knowledge about the different types of art.
Welcome Carolyn, if you get a chance go check out Niki de Saint Phalle at http://www.nikidesaintphalle.com/
Maybe we can do a school trip to visit these sculptures, road trip!
Here is another great website to explore for ideas. Look at the sculptures and house by Tim Sullivan. http://www.geocities.com/flyingconcrete/

Hi, this is Kristen.
I’m a seinor, and I am in IB art. I like all types of art, but I am planning to go into architecture, so I thought that this enrichment would be good to take because we will be making a large scale three-dimensional piece. Also, I learned that ferrocement can be used to make buildings, so I will have some experience with the medium. I am looking foreward to seeing what were will create!
Hi,
We will be emailing our drawings soon and are coming up with some great ideas.
Hi, this is Ranya and I am a junior at the International academy. 🙂 I’ve always had a passion for art, but never thought I would ever explore the subject to an extent. Once I came to the International Academy and took art here, I began to really enjoy creating art. I felt like it was a very relaxing thing to do; for that reason, I decided to take IB Art, and am very privileged in being in the class. I chose to do this enrichment because I found it to be very interesting and decided it was something else I could explore in the art field. I have seen examples of your art work and I find them to be very beautiful! I’m VERY excited to be doing this project with you! 🙂
Hi. I’m Monica and I’m a sophomore at the IA. I am an art student at school and I hope to get into IB Art as a junior. I’ve always liked art a lot, but I’ve never taken any classes in it outside school. I haven’t had a chance to make a lot of 3-dimensional art, although I’ve always wanted to. Also, like Kristen, I am considering being an architect, so this was a good form of practice if I do end up pursuing that. Also, this was a great way to try a relatively new thing to me while having a chance to be creative. I am really excited to be working with you on this project!
Hola, i’m Jake Knight and I take band here at IA but I like art better. I joined this enrichment so that when I look back to this years ago I will say, “HeyIi made that.” I would be proud of myself that I did that for other people to walk on and the other people would be like that is a nice bridge. I look foward to meeting and working with you and I hope we, as a team can make the best bridge ever for this school. Adios.
We can try one of two approaches to choose our project or perhaps a combo of the two or certainly feel free to propose your own ideas.
We can run it as though we are a commissioning agency. We look at the proposals and select one. We do have the option of asking the artist to make some minor changes.
Or
We can colloborate on the design. We would start by reviewing all the ideas and then drawing parts of them to incorporate into a final design.
Talk it over and let me know how you would like to select.
I will post the other drawings.
I thought for my first bridge that it would probably be made out of wood for the bootom, metal supports, and then large metal poles for on the top of the brige and then durable string for the things that are connecting the metal poles on top of the bridge in the drawing. Or we could make a series of poles instead of the string thing and cut it off with another metal pole on on the top of all of those metal poles. I was thinking of more along the line of the Brooklyn
Bridge in New York.
For the second brige i was thinking that we would make it out of cement for the bottom and then big metal supports to hold up the bridge to make it a higher bridge.
